2015 Fiesta MLK Classic Teams With ID Codes (will be posted)
Divisions offered - 18 Open, 18 Club, 16 Open and 16 Club. There are am and pm pools scheduled on Saturday and Sunday in all divisions.
Format - Festival Format. Each division will play three days. The first two rounds will be pool play, Monday play is elimination brackets. Gold Division brackets are double elimination - all others are single elimination. Every attempt is made to schedule matches no later than 4 pm.
Entry - The entry fee is $760. Sign up through www.advancedeventsystems.com. Mail entry form and fee to 2015 Fiesta MLK Classic - 9100 S. McKemy Street, Tempe, AZ 85284. AES Entry deadline is Dec 31, 2013.
Check In - Check in will be from 4:30 pm to 8:15 pm at ASU Rec Center - the parking garage closes at 8:30 pm - any cars in the garage at the time of closing will be ticketed. We plan to be out of the garage by 8:30 pm. If you are unable to get to check in before it closes you must check in a minimum of 1 hour before your first match on Saturday Morning. You will need to show that you have a copy of the medical release forms for each player. In the event of an injury the medical release form should be given to the trainer to attach to the Incident Report form.
Sites - We will be using courts at ASU - at the Student Rec Center, in PE West and in PE East; Court One Athletics Facility, Apollo High School (Glendale), Barney Family Sports Complex (Queen Creek). Parking at ASU (for all three buildings) is in the parking garage due west of the Student Rec Center. Enter the parking garage off Apache Blvd and Normal St. in Tempe.
Start Time - The tournament starts times are 8 am for the morning wave and 2 pm for the afternoon wave. This is the rule for Saturday and Sunday. Monday brackets will start at 8 am and various times throughout the day. Check the tournament desk for any changes. Traditionally we don't schedule 5 pm matches on Monday. Obviously the numbers of teams in the tournament will dictate the format but that is our goal.
Roster Changes - Roster changes will be allowed until Jan 3, 2015. If you make a roster change after the initial entry you must click on the Rebuild Roster button or the new staff/players will not show up on the tournament roster or in the University Athlete info for the collegiate coaches. Collegiate Coaches - please use the University Athlete system to register for a packet. You can do that at www.universityathlete.com University Athlete will be set up at ASU Student Rec Center - at the tournament desk.
Hotel and Travel Info - Contact Mary Jane Hughes of Destination Phoenix. You can access our great room deals at www.destinationphoenixllc.com Mary Jane has blocked rooms with great rates for our tournament that you will not be able to get directly with the hotel. She can also set up your air or van transportation. This is not a Stay to Play tournament. However Destination Phoenix has worked for over 30 years booking rooms for volleyball team travel. They know what a team needs and negotiates good rates.
PF Chang's Rock & Roll Marathon is Jan 18th this year. This will affect travel around the city . It could also affect hotels and car rentals. Please check with Mary Jane Hughes if you are having trouble with hotels, vans, or anything to do with getting in and around Phoenix.
